Find Your Hello Gubby Phone Number
Before configuring forwarding, you need your Hello Gubby phone number. This is the number calls will forward to.
Log in to your Hello Gubby dashboard at app.hellogubby.ai
Navigate to Settings and then Phone Numbers
Copy your assigned Hello Gubby number (it will look like a standard phone number)
Keep this number handy. You will enter it during the forwarding setup process.
Choose Your Forwarding Type
There are two main ways to forward calls:

Most businesses start with conditional forwarding. This lets you answer calls when you can, with Hello Gubby catching everything else.

Google Voice
Open Google Voice settings at voice.google.com
Click the gear icon, then Calls
Find the Forward calls to linked numbers section
Click Add a new linked number
Enter your Hello Gubby phone number
Verify the number when prompted
VoIP Systems (General)
Most VoIP providers like RingCentral, Vonage, Nextiva, and 8x8 have call forwarding settings in their admin portal or app.
General steps:
Log in to your VoIP admin portal
Navigate to Call Handling or Call Forwarding
Add a forwarding number
Enter your Hello Gubby phone number
Choose forwarding type (immediate, busy, or no answer)
Save your settings
Check your provider's documentation for specific menu locations, or contact their support team for help.
Test Your Forwarding
After setting up forwarding, test it before relying on it for real calls:
Call your business number from a different phone
Listen for your Hello Gubby agent to answer
Ask a test question to confirm everything is working
Check your Hello Gubby dashboard to see the call logged
Tip: If you set up conditional forwarding, test both scenarios. Let the phone ring without answering to confirm calls forward after the set number of rings. Then test while your line is busy to confirm that scenario works too.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Calls are not forwarding
Double check that you entered the Hello Gubby number correctly, including the area code. Some carriers require the full 10 digit number, while others need a 1 prefix. Try both formats if one does not work.
Forwarding works but callers hear ringing for too long
With conditional forwarding, adjust the number of rings before forwarding. Most carriers let you set this to 2 to 4 rings for faster handoff.
I hear a message saying forwarding is not available
Your phone plan may not include call forwarding, or it may require activation. Contact your carrier to confirm call forwarding is enabled on your account.
International numbers or toll free numbers
Forwarding to some number types may require additional steps. If you are forwarding from an international number or to a toll free Hello Gubby number, check with your carrier about any restrictions.
Note about carrier charges: Call forwarding may count against your plan minutes or incur per minute charges depending on your carrier and plan. Check with your provider to understand any costs associated with forwarding calls.
Managing Your Forwarding Schedule
Many businesses use different forwarding settings at different times:
Business hours: Conditional forwarding (Hello Gubby as backup)
After hours and weekends: Full forwarding (Hello Gubby handles everything)
Vacation: Full forwarding with vacation specific messaging
You can switch between forwarding types anytime using the codes for your carrier. Some VoIP systems also offer scheduled forwarding that changes automatically based on time of day.
